Melissa Griffiths

Age: 33
Originally from England, Melissa moved to California 8 years ago to enjoy the outdoor life. She started adventure racing 4 years ago when a friend signed her up for a race in New Jersey. They won that first race and since then there has been no looking back. Melissa has competed in races across the U.S. as well as internationally, and prefers expedition length races because there is more opportunity for fun team dynamics. She is an experienced, competitive athlete with several podium finishes across all sports 
Michael Chastaine
El Dorado Hills, California
Age: 47
Mike is a 47 year old lawyer from El Dorado Hills California. He has three daughters and a wife along with two horses, two cats and a dog. He has been involved in endurance activities since a teenager. He ran his first marathon at the age of 16. He raced on a collegiate level in both track and cross county. He raced triathlons in the 90?s and mountain bike races before there were suspension systems. He has been doing adventure racing with different teams for the past 6 seasons with several podium finishes. Mike races in all manner of distances from the 8 hour up through multiple day events. In the past two years Mike competed as a solo rider in the 24 hours at Cool (on a single speed), the US 24 hour Rogaine National championship as well as a host of adventure races. Mike is a National Ski Patroller at Sugar Bowl during the winter, races expert class and single speed mountain bikes and teaches navigation in clinics from time to time. 
Will Gilmore
San Francisco, California
Age: 34
Will Gilmore began adventure racing without a clue in 1999 and in one year qualified and competed at the USARA Adventure Race National Championship. Will briefly took a year off in 2004 to concentrate on orienteering, a key sub-sport of adventure racing and won a US National Championship that year. In 2005, Will returned to adventure racing and formed the team Dirty Avocados. Currently, Will is the head coach of the PacWest AdventurePac, an adventure racing fitness training and skills program that he created to help bring new people to the sport he loves. During this expedition, Will?s navigation, strategy and experience will be counted on to bring this team to a good finish.

Dirty Avocados is a collection of experienced racers from Northern California?s Bay Area and Central Valley. As a team and individuals, we compete in local and national adventure races along with various other endurance sports and expeditions.
