Raid the North
Silver Star Mountain Resort, British Columbia August 20 - 22,
2004
After a year of rugged mountain races in Western
Canada, Frontier Adventure Racing is switching gears to the
splendour and variety of the North Okanagan. Silver Star Mountain
Resort, a colourful fairytale ski village nestled in the Monashees
above Vernon, BC, opens their doors to our western 2004 Raid the
North event.
About Silver Star Mountain Resort and the Vernon Region:
In
summer, Silver Star Mountain Resort blossoms into an unparalleled
array of greenery and wildflowers. Just minutes out of Vernon, BC,
and the warm waters of Lake Okanagan, Silver Star's colourful
village welcomes outdoor enthusiasts all year around. Cross-Country
& Downhill skiing, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing in the winter and
Hiking, Mountain Biking, Rafting, and Horseback Riding in the summer
makes Silver Star the perfect destination.
With village accommodation ranging from a hostel to a five-star
hotel, and featuring facilities such as a high-altitude training
centre and conference center, Silver Star is everything we could
hope for in a host site for Raid the North.
The
Silver Star village sits at 6280 feet, and is surrounded by three
tempting lakes - Okanagan Lake, Swan Lake and Kalamalka Lake (lake
of many colours). The Vernon region is very rich in variety of
terrain and ecology, with landscapes that vary from open, semi-arid
grasslands to high elevation sub-alpine meadows, to dark, moist
temperate rainforests, often only a few kilometres apart!
